Joseph Hazelton's Lincoln Assassination

 
 

In 1933, almost 70 years after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, Joseph Hazelton sat down in front of a microphone and told the story of watching it happen as a program boy at Ford's Theatre. That record disappeared from sight until the mid-2000s, when a record collector found the last copy in existence.

After posting this episode, we received the following message from Huntington curator Olga Tsapina: "I cataloged the record in 2008 and in 2009 I actually used a copy of the recording in my Lincoln bi-centennial exhibit. There is a cataloging record for this that I poste… It was not exactly languishing in the vault. It had gone through conservation review, and it was our Conservation Lab that made the custom-made box to which the Post-It was attached."
